Ostfriesia Series

The inspiration for my Ostfriesia series is drawn from memories of family visits to my father’s birthplace on the Friesland peninsula.

Where the North Sea breaks on the Friesan plain, shattering into a lattice of canals, grasslands and dunes.

The wide horizon brings a clarity to the delicate colourings of soft greys, delft blues and celadon evident in the flat landscape,

as well as nod towards the Dutch and Chinese histories with porcelain.

Thin mists, marshland fogs, and sea haze powder the skylines,  blurring distinctions from land, the sea and sky.

The Distraction Bowl aesthetic is featured in this series with vessels which twist looking both onwards and backwards.

Vessels titled: Sea Fret, Haar, Het Riff, and Nord with colours hellebore, tawny, pistachio and fog incite the coming spring.
